Each piece was hand painted with acrylic paint, then appliquéd together. Machine quilted by Trudy Hardy. |

Poppies on a Windy Day -50”W x 48”H
The carpets of orange and yellow poppies mark the beginning of spring and encourage us to emerge from our winter cocoons. I hand painted silk to create the flowers in this composition because it took on the luster and appeal of a real poppy. My goal was to capture the spirit of the poppies as they dance on the hills on a windy day. This quilt was juried into the Ricky Timms show Expressions: The Art Quilt, 2007 and toured the U.S. for two years. It was also selected to be published in the 2009 AQS Quilt Art Calendar. Cotton fabrics, hand painted silk and hand beaded. |
The Bicycle of Avignon- 41"H x39"W,
Currently on exhibit in the Office of the President of San Jose State University, San Jose,CA
On a trip to France my friend and I were exploring the city of Avignon one warm afternoon. Walking back from the Pont St. Bénézet on the Rhône River, we walked out of a narrow, cool alleyway and sitting in front of us was this wonderful bicycle. It was obviously well love judging from the brightly colored paints that decorated its frame. At this moment it sat obediently waiting for its rider to return and pedal the bundles of flowers in its baskets home from the flower market. Cotton fabrics, hand drawn and colored with Prismacolor markers and acrylic paint.

She Loved to Sew 49"H x 42 1/2" H
I wrote a tribute about my Mother's life and wanted to showcase it in a quilt. I used old photos from a family album and old buttons which from childhood I remember being such a part of my Mother's sewing notions. The quilt was completed using computer generated photos onto cotton fabrics.

Geisha in Winter 43”W x 52”L

Make a Wish- 24”W x 32”L
There is a special delight for a child lucky enough to find a “make-a-wish” flower in the lawn on a warm summer day. The look on their face when they make their most precious wish and with a sudden rush of breath blow the tiny flowers and their wish to the wind. Cotton fabrics, hand beading, and acrylic paint.

Charcoal I- 40 1/2"H x 41 1/2"W
While taking my first drawing class when I returned to school to study Art, we were given the assignment of doing a charcoal drawing of a figure. I fell in love with drawing with charcoal and wanted to translate the drawing into a quilt. The quilt is done with cotton fabrics, acrylic paints and is hand beaded along the quilting lines. |
City Scape I
The constant movement and buzz of San Francisco and New York were my inspirations for this piece. Apartment building widows, city blocks, people moving, and a bridge complete with cars and trucks moving across it were all constructed to give maximum graphic impact. The large variety of colors and prints convey the diversity of a big city. My intent for this piece was to create something lyrical, something that would give the viewer a feeling of the movement and energy of the big city.
